Novartis issues a warning about veterinary medications -- In the wake of problems with Novartis' human medicine division, the company has notified veterinarians that certain pet medications may contain improper tablets. The products involved include Clomicalm, Interceptor Flavor Tabs, Sentinel Flavor Tabs, Program Tablets and Suspension, Milbemite and Deramaxx. The company suggests to remove any broken tablets or tablets that are not the right size or color.

The above mentioned products will be temporarily unavailable.

JONES NATURAL CHEWS PIG EARS:    DETAILS: Pig ear dog chews manufactured by Jones Natural Chews Co. of Rockford, Ill., and shipped to distributors and retailers in Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

WHY: The chews may be contaminated with salmonella, which can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever in people, and cause pets to feel lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting.

March 3, 2011 - WellPet is recalling certain lots of its canned cat food products because of potentially lower levels of thiamine or vitamin B1. The recalled products include Wellness Canned Cat Food Chicken & Herring with best-by dates of Nov. 10 to Nov. 17, 2013, and Wellness Canned Cat Food with best-by dates of April 14 to Sept. 30, 2013. January 28, 2011 - Merrick Pet Care, Inc. of Amarillo, Texas is recalling the Jr. Texas Taffy pet treat (ITEM # 27077, UPC # 02280827077, All Lots up to and including 10364) because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  Merrick Pet Care has made the decision to recall all Jr. Texas Taffy pet treats in the abundance of caution. Salmonella can affect animals and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products. People handling the treats can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the chews or any surfaces exposed to these products.  Consumers should dispose of these products in a safe manner by securing them in a covered trash receptacle. Oct. 8, 2010: Blue Buffalo Company, Ltd. recalles certain dry dog food because of possible excess Vitamin D that can affect the health of some dogs. The Blue Buffalo Company Ltd., is recalling certain packages of its Wilderness Chicken, Basics Salmon and Large Breed Adult Chicken dry dog foods sold under the "BLUE" brand.
